The brief is never the brief

Every project starts with a stated problem and an actual problem, and they are rarely the same thing.
The stated problem
"Our logo feels dated." Sometimes true. Usually a stand-in for something harder to say out loud.
The actual problem
- Two owners want different businesses.
- The food changed and the room did not.
- The staff cannot explain the concept in one sentence, so guests cannot either.
How we get to it
We run discovery as a conversation, not a questionnaire. Two hours in the room with everyone who has veto power, and one question repeated in different clothes: what is this place for?
A brand platform is mostly a written record of arguments you have already had, so you do not have to have them again during construction.
Once that is on paper, the identity work is fast. It is not the hard part. It never was.
